The 037 is a legendary Group B rally car that was driven by the likes of Markku Alen, Henri Toivonen and Attilio Bettega but Lancia never plained for it to find its way to the racing circuit after its days in rallying. Eight years after Group B was banned the team Rosso Competition entered a unit ex works car in the third round of the championship the Japanese GT Championship to be driven by Naohiro Furuya.

The third round of the championship was hosted at the famous Fuji Speedway a track that would most definitely not suit the 037 with its short ratio dog leg gearbox that was more suited to the hills of Sanremo not to mention the lack of power compared to the competition. With only a humble 325bhp it was no match for the Ferrari F40’s and Porsche 962’s it was up against. The 037 only had a few openings to help the engine cool down as it was never designed to be running at maximum RPM for such a time. One issue i noticed from a handling point of view is that the 037 was specifically designed for Speedline 16 inch wheels and not these larger ones. This would have seriously effected the handling of the car. The 037 was entered into the GT1 class and it was no where near the pace of the other cars.
