Just like it did with the FIAT 500, Abarth modIfied the 600 too. Initially with the "Derivazione Abarth 750" that took the original 633cc engine to 767cc, then, when FIAT adopted the 767cc as standard, it started working on the 850cc fot the 850 TC (Turismo Competizione) and on the 1000cc for the 1000 Berlina.
The 1000 first appeared in 1962 as a normal FIAT 600D with something more but yet in 1963 it became distinct with an additional radiator installed on front bumper and the tail lifter used on rear not for cooling, as many believe, but to reduce aerodynamic turbuences.
